Catastrophe management - Safety first

Project Info:

Challenge
Enhance emergency management, communication and collaboration between different stakeholders of the emergency force members.

Outcome
This concept aims at improving emergency management by visualizing the catastrophe area on a multi-touch table, enabling the stakeholders to make decisions together. Furthermore, Stakeholders are supported by iPads, a tangible controller and interactive pencils to interact with the table or contact their co-workers in the field.

How it works
Focusing on the collaborative work between the superior of the task force, a multi-touch table is used for bringing people together around a table. A map of the affected area of the catastrophe provides a base for discussion and solution. In this situation the interactive pencil can be used for marking the fields and the tangible device for navigating through the map. In addition each one of them/ the supervisors has his own tablet to get specific information and to stay in a permanent contact with his crew at the emergency site. In this way more precise decisions will be guaranteed by visual explanations and obstructive complications will be prevented. In this project I was responsible for the concept in general and especially for managing how to navigate with the tangible device including also the interface around it.
